Protect the routes you use every day

Start with clear movement between the entrance, living space, kitchen and bedrooms. Furniture that narrows these routes can make an otherwise adequate room feel cramped.

Give storage a specific job

Plan storage around what needs to be stored. Shoes, cleaning equipment, books and everyday bags all need different depths and access. Generic cabinets can occupy valuable floor area without solving the real problem.

Choose flexibility, not constant rearranging

A folding table is useful only if opening it is convenient. Flexible pieces should support common routines rather than require the room to be rebuilt for every activity.

Create visual breathing room

Not every wall needs a feature and not every corner needs an object. A consistent palette, aligned joinery and a few uncluttered surfaces can make the overall composition feel easier to read.
